Common Ways You May Be Putting Secure Information at Risk

Simple Mistakes That Can Affect Your Company & Your Job

It is increasingly common to see large companies entrenched in a data breach compromising hundreds if not hundreds of thousands of records containing personal information of clients, personnel and customers. Simple mistakes can lead to the loss of secure information and loss of a career with that company.

How to Keep Information Secure

  1. Ensure mobile devices are always accounted for. Lost or stolen devices can contain very important information that can easily fall into the hands of the wrong person.
  2. Change your passwords. If you are still using easy to remember passwords you are placing your information at risk in the case a mobile device is lost or stolen. Consider secure password portals to store your new passwords.
  3. Leaving the office with an untidy desk. Secure information can be compromised by simply leaving a document on your desk as you leave the office for the day. Lock away information in drawers, close computers and ensure your desk is free of anything that can lead to a data breach.
  4. Tossing documents. How often do you recycle a document containing secure information not knowing when it will be picked up or destroyed? Ensure your office has an on-going shredding policy with a company such as PROSHRED® Fort Lauderdale to ensure your information is securely destroyed.
